$100 Film Festival
Don't be fooled by the name — you don't need to pay $100 to attend. The festival is Calgary's only celluloid-based film festival and showcases eight short films on Super 8 and 16-mm film. When the festival started in 1992, $100 was roughly the cost of a short film that used four rolls of Super 8 — hence the name.
There are more than 30 short films that will be screened and not all of them are low-budget. The festival is happening at the Globe Cinema and wraps up Saturday night.
Tickets are available at the door or can be bought ahead of time at 103 - 223 12th Avenue S.W. between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT Friday and Saturday.
Friday and Saturday 7 p.m.
Globe Cinema, 617 Eighth Avenue S.W.

Brasstronaut at Communitea Cafe
The Vancouver-based band Brasstronaut is in Canmore this weekend and will be playing at the Communitea Cafe on Sunday night.
The sextet blends clarinet, slide-guitar, trumpet, synthesizers, vocals and rhythm to creatre a truly unique sound.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door.
Sunday 8:30 p.m.
Communitea Cafe, Canmore
Great Big Sea
These guys don't need much of an introduction.
The Canadian folk-rock band from Newfoundland will be playing at the Jubilee next Thursday and Friday for their 20-year anniversary tour.
March 14 and 15 7:30 p.m.
Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium
4. Scarlet Woman at Lunchbox Theatre
This one-act, two-woman show has two actresses playing 12 different characters and bills itself as having "more dead bodies than the last scene of Hamlet."
The play, written by New York-based playwright Matthew Wells, is a bit on the darker side and plays on the "femme fatale" character. It runs until March 23 at Lunchbox Theatre downtown.
Monday-Saturday 12:10 p.m., Friday 6:10 p.m., Saturday 7:30 p.m.
Lunchbox Theatre, 160 -115 Ninth Avenue S.E.
