City re-zones block for Calgary's tallest building

City council has re-zoned a downtown block to make way for what will ultimately become the tallest building in Calgary.
Brookfield Properties wants to build a 57-story office tower, which would be taller than the new Bow building, on the site of the old Calgary Herald building.
The site is now being cleared for construction.
Alderman Druh Farrell says it will be an impressive development in the heart of downtown.
“We're getting an entire city block built right on the LRT and it's going to be quite an extraordinary development built over a couple of phases,” Farrell said.
On Monday, city council heard that eventually, The Bay parkade will be removed and replaced with another tower with an underground parkade, which will include a separate entrance for bicycle riders and will connect with future cycle lanes downtown.
