The Conference Board of Canada believes that Alberta needs to implement a sales tax to end the reliance on resource revenue that is hurting the government’s bottom line.

“A five per cent sales tax would more than wipe out the current deficit, leave Alberta in a competitive position relative to the other provinces and provide some much needed stability to government revenues,” senior economists Alicia Macdonald and Todd Crawford state in their report titled Opportunity Lost?

However, Premier Alison Redford continues to insist that her government will not introduce a provincial sales tax when it tables the budget on March 7th.
