A Calgary man has been charged after a woman was killed in a double hit and run in the city's northwest Wednesday.

Wong Suk Yee, 56, of Calgary was struck as she attempted to cross the intersection of Sandstone Drive and Berkshire Boulevard around 7 a.m. MT.

On Wednesday, police believed she was using the crosswalk but officials now say they are unsure.

Police say Wong was hit by a southbound vehicle and that two other vehicles drove around her as she lay on the ground before being struck by a second vehicle.

None of the vehicles remained at the scene.

Around 7: 45 a.m., police received a call from a man claiming to have been involved in the collision.

Steven Jonathan Vanasse, 24, has been charged with hit and run causing death. His vehicle, a red Ford Taurus station wagon, has been seized and will undergo further testing.

Vanesse was denied bail Wednesday but is expected to be back in court March 1.

Police are still looking for a dark-coloured sedan with damage to the lower part of the front bumper.

Officials were back on the scene Thursday morning asking commuters if they had seen the crash.

Police also set up two large, electronic signs at the scene asking the public for help.

"We've had more witnesses who have provided us with more information,” said Sgt. Colin Foster.

An autopsy for Wong is expected to be completed Thursday. Police don't believe speed was a factor in the collision, but it is still under investigation.
