A trial began Monday against a ringette coach charged with sex offences against one of her young players.
Kelsea Hepburn is accused of sexual exploitation and invitation to sexual touching against a 13-year-old girl on her team.
Testifying via closed circuit television from a different room in the courthouse on Monday, the alleged victim described incidents where Hepburn would initiate touching and kissing.
Court also learned about text messages the two had exchanged, messages that took on an intimate tone in December 2010.
The alleged incidents happened on team trips, at a hockey game and finally in the basement of her parent's home where the girl’s mother discovered the two in March 2011.
In one text from Hepburn to the girl, she wrote: “PS you need to be super careful with your phone and erase these messages … if anyone reads these I’m going to jail.”
The girl also told court Hepburn frequently said she felt like a criminal or a predator.
Hepburn coached ringette for six years.
The jury trial is scheduled to last a week.
