Injured worker saved in 'high-risk' rescue at TD Square

Firefighters conducted a dramatic "high-risk" rescue early this morning at TD Square.
Crews were called out at 2 a.m. MT to help an injured worker who had been doing maintenance work in the mall's food court on a scaffold.
A pane of glass from the arched ceiling dislodged and swung down, striking the worker on the head.
The glass shattered, knocking the worker down.
Fire officials say they used a complicated rope rescue to bring the worker down from the 12-metre scaffold platform. Firefighters then loaded the man onto a specialized stretcher.
A crane was used to raise the injured worker up through the window opening in the roof to get him to safety.
He was then brought into the building by an elevator. The rescue took about 30 minutes.
The extent of the man's injuries is unknown at this time.
