There's a ton of arts and entertainment events in Calgary this weekend. CBC’s Chris dela Torre picks this week include a show from a folk duo out of Ontario, a look back at a famous Calgary film, two final performances of the High Performance Rodeo and a "sonic" collaboration.

This Is What Happens Next at Martha Cohen
High Performance Rodeo is in its final week. Alberta Theatre Projects' show, the latest from the acclaimed writer and performer Daniel MacIvor, has been well received.
Though MacIvor is not playing himself in a literal way in This Is What Happens Next, there are some very personal elements, says CBC theatre critic Jessica Goldman.
The show goes into his divorce and his addiction problems. MacIvor likens the play to creative non-fiction.

Dala at River Church Auditorium
If you keep an ear on the modern folk scene in Canada, you probably know of the band Dala.
It's made up of two high school music class buddies from Scarborough, Ont., who've worked hard enough over the years to become a pretty big deal on the North American folk/pop circuit.
They've won Junos and Canadian Folk Music Awards and even had their own PBS special. Best Day is the name of Dala's new record. The group plays an all-ages show tonight.

Cool Runnings gala at COP
If you're a long-time Calgarian, you may know someone who had something to do with Cool Runnings — the 1993 John Candy movie based loosely on the true story of four Jamaicans who became bobsledders in the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
Many Calgarians worked as extras, or maybe even caught the real team compete at the Olympics. The bobsled from the movie still hangs at Ranchman's Cookhouse and Dancehall. The Reel Fun Fest is presenting the 20th anniversary screening this weekend as a fundraiser for the film festival.
The cast of the movie will be in attendance — though not the late John Candy, of course — and so will members of the original 1988 Jamaican bobsled team. You can also catch Cool Runnings at The Plaza Theatre this coming Sunday.

This year's Rodeo lineup had a lot of artists from Iceland, be it dancers or theatre companies. SonicWaves, a co-production between the High Performance Rodeo and the Calgary Folk Festival, features some local Icelandic musicians.
Just a few weeks ago some locally-bred artists — Woodpigeon, Samantha Savage Smith, Laura Leif and Clinton St. John — flew to Reykjavik to meet with two of that country's indie artists. Together, they did a bit of an artistic exchange, traded ideas and came up with some things together.
SonicWaves, made up of two Icelanders, two Calgarians and two former Calgarians, will perform what they came up with for the first (and possibly last) time.
