A cleaning company in Calgary is trying to meet increasing demand for fighting the flu in offices.

Servpro Vice President Dan Lindsay says the company has seen demand for office sanitation going up since the SARS outbreak in 2003. "We're focussing on breaking the bacteria chain. We're focussing on cleaning those touch points such as door handles, your washrooms, your kitchens," said Lindsay.

Alberta Health Services says a good cleaning and hand washing does help prevent the flu.

However, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Judy MacDonald urges Calgarians to get a flu shot.

"The vaccine is the best way because when you get the influenza vaccination, you are protecting yourself against three different influenza strains that are predicted to be circulating," said MacDonald.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, between Aug. 2012 and Jan. 19, more than 1,800 cases of influenza A were reported in Alberta.
