The Alzheimer’s Society of Calgary was overwhelmed by the number of people who expressed an interest in the community forum on the topic.

The society expected about 100 people but had almost 500 people sign up to hear from a panel of experts. The large number is a clear indicator of how many in the community are affected by the disease in some way and need support, according to the society.

“Our goal is to build community, to provide people with insight and to empower them with knowledge they need throughout their journey with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia,” said Barb Ferguson, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Society in Calgary.

The overwhelming demand has lead to the society planning another forum to accomodate those on the waiting list.
