Alberta Premier Alison Redford will speak to the province in a televised address for eight minutes on Thursday evening.
In a written statement, the premier says she will be talking about the challenges Alberta faces because of the rapidly falling price of Alberta oil.
The premier and members of her cabinet have been warning Albertans for the past month to expect a tough budget this spring.
"In this year's budget, we'll hold the line on our spending and we'll live within our means," says Redford.
The budget will be delivered on March 7.
