Cochrane RCMP have issued warrants for a man they claim assaulted an officer.
The officer was responding to a complaint on Sunday of an impaired driver heading towards Calgary from Lake Louise on the Trans-Canada Highway around 6 p.m. MT.
A Cochrane RCMP officer located the Toyota RAV4 and stopped it at the intersection with Highway 22.
RCMP say the officer spoke to the driver and informed him he was under arrest, which is when the driver sped away from the scene and hit the officer with his vehicle.
The officer received minor injuries.
Police are looking for Richard Sawchuck, 35, of Courtenay, B.C., who could be moving to the Calgary or Airdrie area for work.
Warrants have been issued for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, escape from lawful custody, assault on a police officer and assault on a police officer with a weapon.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
