A spinathon held in Calgary hopes to raise $15,000 to fight against mitochondrial disease.

Cyclists and triathletes from around Calgary worked out for five hours straight to raise money and awareness in the fight against mitochondrial disease.
Around 120 people rode stationary bikes inside Eau Claire Market Sunday, pedalling towards their goal of $15,000.
Mitochondrial disease causes a wide variety of issues, such as vision problems and muscle weakness, because it affects cells.
MitoCanada founder and president Blaine Penny said getting the word out is important.
"It impacts one in 6,000 people in Canada and, because of the lack of awareness and the complexity of the disease, it's estimated that less than 10 per cent of the people who actually have the disease gets a diagnosis. So the awareness piece is huge."
