A Siksika Nation representative told hundreds of Hidden Valley Golf Resort cabin owners at a meeting in Calgary Saturday that the band is prepared to negotiate a new lease but only with a new board or a new negotiating committee.

In December, Siksika band members rejected a lease agreement totalling $22 million over the next 50 years for land east of Calgary near Gleichen, Alta.

Cottage owners were facing the prospect of either moving their cabins or abandoning them altogether when their lease with Siksika expires at the end of October.

"It's good news that they're prepared to go forward with us," said Tim Nakaska, president of the Hidden Valley Cottage Owners' Association.

"It's very good news. We still have a huge number of questions, primarily as to whether or not we are negotiating an extension or new terms and conditions. We don't know, that's going to have to be ironed out."

Hidden Valley board members intend to resign in April to help kickstart negotiations and the association plans to set up a new negotiating team, which they hope will lead to a solution.
