A red hot Calgary real estate market is expected to slow down this year.

The Calgary Real Estate Board issued its predictions on Wednesday.

Forecaster Ann-Marie Lurie says sales will increase again this year, but only by about two per cent.

“We continue to see employment growth, but at a slower pace than we saw in 2012,” Lurie explained, adding home sales jumped by 15 per cent in 2012.

Nationally, home prices rose 1.6 per cent in December, but sales declined by 17 per cent from last year’s level, according to the Canadian Real Estate Association.

Calgary Real Estate Board president Becky Walters says moderate growth in Calgary is positive for people looking to buy or sell.

"Now we are back to our normal, so that's very comfortable for people,” Walters said. “They can sit back, not rush and make a decision as we had seen people doing. So it's a really nice, confident market for people."

Some people like Jennifer Campbell help those sales move along by adding colour and style to a home right before it goes on the market.

"Especially in vacant spaces, they seem so cold and empty and you stage it and put furniture in, so it’s much more warm and welcoming," said Campbell, who stages homes.

Campbell says she’s had quite a few requests for quotes recently.
