Calgary's mayor wonders if the city really needs to repaint crosswalks every spring.

Naheed Nenshi says the city has experimented with different methods to get away from the annual chore, but he wants to find a permanent solution.

“What we'd like to do is gather the data on how those have worked, how things work in other cities, and come up with either a pilot project or just a wholesale change to our policy and do that quickly,” Nenshi said, adding a new strategy could save money and resources.

Nenshi plans to bring a proposal to city council in a couple of months.
