Andy Warhol: The Athlete Series at MOCA

American artist Andy Warhol may be best known for turning the Campbell’s Soup can into an art icon. Warhol was also among the first artists to document the modern phenomenon of celebrity. In the late ‘70s, Warhol created a series of photographs and paintings of prominent athletes. The series includes Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and a young Wayne Gretzky.

The Museum of Contemporary Art Calgary opens an exhibit of these photos Saturday and they will be on display for the next month. Admission is free, but it is necessary to RSVP through the museum’s website.
