The mayor of Redwood Meadows says people in his community west of Calgary are extremely angry over the destruction of a Tsuu T'ina flag on the weekend.

Redwood Meadows is a townsite built on land leased from Tsuu T'ina Nation, a reserve located on Calgary's western boundary.

For the last three months a Tsuu T'ina flag, along with a Canadian and Alberta flag, have been flying outside the townsite's office.

On Sunday, vandals ripped down the Tsuu T'ina flag flying outside the townsite's office, tore it up and dumped it at Mayor John Welsh's house.

But on Sunday vandals ripped it down, tore it up and dumped it at Mayor John Welsh's house.

Welsh says police have some "persons of interest" on their radar who are not from either Redwood Meadows or T'suu Tina Nation.

"We're a community that loves where we live and we have a positive relationship with T'suu Tina and we're not going to let some fool damage that relationship," he said.

Welsh says there may be a link between the flag incident and vandalism that blocked the community's sewer line in July.

The townsite is offering a $500 reward for information, and some residents are using their own money to boost the reward.

There has also been a petition started, which the mayor says will demonstrate just how disgusted the community is over the flag vandalism.
