The city invited Calgarians to celebrate International Human Rights Day by exploring the evolution of human rights in Alberta.

Janet Keeping, who will be speaking at the event, says human rights in Alberta has come a long way since it was first introduced back in 1972.

"Back in the day, discrimination was beginning to be recognized as a bad thing, and that's why you have laws against it, but it wasn't thought of as quite — and I'll just use the old fashioned word — evil, that we think of it now," she said.

The event ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. MT at the John Dutton Theatre located at the Central Public Library on Macleod Trail S.E.
