Charges have been laid against a man following an armed standoff in northwest Calgary on Friday.
Police were called to a home in the 7500 block of 34th Avenue just after 2 a.m. MT.
As police arrived, they noticed a vehicle leaving the area, which fled the scene when police tried to stop it. The Calgary police HAWCS helicopter was called in to track the vehicle.
They say a man wearing body armour with a firearm was found parked in a nearby alley a short time later.
The suspect refused to leave the vehicle and allegedly fired a shot into the air and one into the ground, say police.
No one was injured, and the man surrendered a few hours later.
The 41 year old is facing numerous charges, including discharge of a firearm and possession of body armour.
He is expected to appear in court on Monday.
