CRTC says new area codes will be needed by 2017

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission says some area codes in Alberta and Ontario are running out. (CBC)
New area codes will be popping up on phones in Alberta and Ontario in the next few years.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced the area codes: 403, 780, and 587 in Alberta are expected to run out by June 2018.
In southern Ontario, area codes 226 and 519 are expected to run out by January 2017.
The CRTC says new area codes in both provinces will be determined by the Canadian Numbering Administrator.
