Katz's Alberta residency part of donations probe

Where Daryl Katz makes his home will be one of the issues examined in a probe by Elections Alberta.
Chief electoral officer Brian Fjeldheim is looking into at least $300,000 in donations to the Alberta Progressive Conservative party by Katz, his family, his companies and employees to see if they comply with the law.
"The contributions cannot be made by a corporation or an individual person who's not ordinarily resident in Alberta so it would certainly be confirming that," said Drew Westwater, a spokesman with Elections Alberta.
Katz, the billionaire owner of the Rexall Pharmacy chain, has a home in Edmonton but he is also believed to have homes in Vancouver and the United States.
Deputy Premier Thomas Lukaszuk said that donors are responsible for ensuring they meet residency criteria. But Westwater said political parties are responsible for making that determination before they accept a donation.
