A public meeting over a new development in Springbank will continue later this week because of the sheer volume of people looking to be heard on the issue.

Bingham Crossing is a proposed seniors complex and retail operations on land off the Trans-Canada Highway near Calaway Park, just west of Calgary.

Rocky View County council heard the views of people for and against it Tuesday.

Jerry Arshinoff is one of many in Springbank who feel it doesn't fit in.

"To have a council, or even a developer, come and tell us that we need this," he said. "This is the case of truly as the old saying goes it's the boy scout who helped the old lady across the street who didn't want to go. That's not what we want."

Opinions vary

Arshinoff also is concerned about how the development would secure water and sewer services.

However, George Mylonas — who has lived with his family in Springbank for four years — says it is time for the development.

"A change where some of the residents don't have to trek all the way into Calgary all the time for their basic essential necessities that they need to live out in Springbank," he said.

"I think it's important for us to have some shopping options and some employment options. I think this development will be good overall."

Since the public hearing didn't get through all the people who wanted to speak, the meeting will continue at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at the Rocky View County office.
