Calgary emergency crews kept busy with traffic accidents
Despite snowy conditions, number of accidents still lower than expected

Calgary’s first taste of winter brought a good dose of snow which ended up causing several traffic accidents.
Calgary police say there was a total of 67 accidents on Saturday, and another seven overnight.
Out of those, only two caused injuries.
Calgary police duty inspector Patty McCallum says given the snowy conditions, those numbers aren’t too bad.
“I don’t think it is, I don’t know what our average is but to me we’ve got over a million people, it’s a weekend and people are out and about,” she said.
But the number of accidents still kept tow truck drivers busy, like Philip Osborn.
"Every time the snow comes, it's time to go,” he said. “Everybody's in need all at once.”
Calgary police duty staff sergeant Darrell Hesse says it’s time for drivers to adjust to the winter conditions.
"Giving themselves a little more time to reach their destination and more importantly, giving themselves room between vehicles," Hesse explained.
