Some of the Calgary Flames players are expressing hope about a new proposal from NHL owners today.

NHL president Gary Bettman has offered a 50-50 split, and the players won't have wage rollbacks.

Flames player Alex Tanguay says he just wants to get back in the game.

"I'm excited," he said.

"I think it shows that they want to play. That's one of the things that we weren't sure to what point — what did they want to do exactly. You know they're the owner, they run the shows so to speak."

Captain Jarome Iginla says he hasn't had a chance to read the whole proposal but it's good to see some movement between the two sides.

"You know all along you look at it and it looks like there's a deal there to be had and this moves a lot closer to it right?" he said. "So hopefully both sides keep working at it and get it done."

Now the NHL Players Association is mulling the offer over.

The spokesman for the players association, Steve Fehr, says they also hope they could reach a deal to salvage an 82-game season.

"What our hope is that after we review this that there will be a feeling on the players side that this is a proposal from which we can negotiate and try and reach a conclusion," he said.
