Calgary police say the injuries of a six-year-old girl sustained last November were not consistent with what family members claimed when they said she fell down a flight of stairs.

In November 2011, officers were called to a home on Temple Drive N.E. following reports of a child with undetermined injuries.

Meika Jordan was taken to hospital where she died the next day.

The death was later declared a homicide when an autopsy discovered she died from multiple blunt force trauma.

Police now say they believe Meika may have received other injuries prior to her death, including a severe burn to the palm of her hand and fingers.

All the injuries occurred while she was in the sole care of her biological father and her stepmother, according to police.

Authorities say the couple is not co-operating with the investigation.
