Calgary police seized a motorcycle after catching a man racing down Deerfoot Trail on Wednesday night.
Officers spotted a 25-year-old man merging onto the busy road at a high speed around 7:30 p.m. MT.
As police followed, the bike wove in and out of traffic and kept accelerating — eventually hitting more than 190 kilometres per hour, which is nearly double the speed limit.
Duty Insp. Paul Stacey said cruising that fast is extremely dangerous.
"All it takes is for somebody to do a lane change in front of him and he's done," he said.
"There's no way at that speed he would be able to react to something like that."
Officers impounded the bike for 24 hours and laid a criminal charge of dangerous driving against the man.
"There's lots of vehicles on Deerfoot at that time of night," said Stacey.
"And this motorbiker had to weave in and out of traffic to build up that much speed and maintain it."
Last weekend there was another case of high speeds when two vehicles were racing side-by-side on the QE II near Innisfail, clocking in at 214 km/h.
