Calgary Transit is still working on some safety concerns with residents near the extension of the northeast LRT line, which is set to open on Monday.

Kelly Jones of the Martindale Community Association says worries, like a lack of safety barriers, prompted a meeting on Monday with Calgary Transit.

"They saw our concerns, met with us and we've just received an email back saying they're actually going to help us and see if we can get some more safety barriers put in here," he said.

David Cooper of Calgary Transit says they also agreed to reduce the speed of trains.

"We've agreed to reduce the operating speed to 50 kilometres an hour when the train goes into service next week and that will be to match the local traffic speed in the area and address any community concerns," he said.

Calgary Transit expects an additional 8,000 riders on the new part of the LRT.
