Calgary police will review how they handled a domestic dispute in the northeast that appears to have escalated into a shooting early Monday morning.

Police are looking for a 52-year-old man after a woman was shot just before 1 a.m. MT in the community of Martindale.

Duty Insp. Craig Skelton said officers found the wounded 58-year-old woman when they arrived.

"She was transported to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition and we are currently searching for a subject of interest in relation to this incident," he said.

Police say the suspect had been charged on Aug. 7 with a domestic-related incident at the same home and as part of his release conditions he was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.

The suspect was arrested on Aug. 12 after breaching those conditions and making contact with the woman in the same home on Martindale Boulevard.

"Our domestic conflict unit reviews each one of the cases and makes sure that the intervention has been appropriate," said Duty Insp. Jim Leung Monday afternoon.

Neighbour Gargi Rudra, who lives across the street, said the woman came over to the neighbours early in the morning, "walking and shouting."

"It's a very quiet neighbourhood and we have never saw this ... before. It's shocking."

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Nihad Abdullah Ibrahim. He is described as being five foot nine inches tall, 180 pounds with a medium build, brown hair and brown eyes.
