The future of the Village of Cremona is under review after more than one third of its residents signed a petition asking for a dissolution study.
The provincial review will determine if the central Alberta village is better off run by a council, as it is now, or if it should become part of the surrounding Mountain View County.
Jennie Thompson is one of the people who started the petition and delivered it to the province in February with 162 signatures.
Thompson says she loves living in Cremona, but she is fed up with the way the mayor and two councillors are running the village of about 460 people.
"I just feel Cremona is growing stagnant. Nothing is going on."
"I feel we are being taxed at a fairly high tax rate, getting no amnenities for it. There's got to be a better way," says Thompson.
Mayor Leslie Abrams says the process has been hard on her and the village.
"In my opinion it has set Cremona back several years, if not decades. We've had a few developers interested in Cremona and we feel we must disclose we are under study and they've backed off. "
The study will look at the finances, services and governance of the village.
No date has been set for a decision.
