Emergency crews continue to search for a man who disappeared while swimming with a group near the Seebe Dam west of Calgary.
STARS Air Ambulance and the Calgary Fire Department’s water rescue crews were called to the scene Wednesday around 7 p.m. MT.
RCMP say the 21-year-old man failed to surface while crossing the Bow River.
The man was cliff diving with friends until he and a female friend could not make it to shore after jumping in.
The pair swam down river a short distance where other people were also cliff diving, but started having trouble keeping afloat, according to RCMP.
The second group of people came to help, and the woman was brought to shore, but attempts to reach the distressed man were unsuccessful and he went under the water.
RCMP say he was not seen again.
Kananaskis Public Safety assisted in the rescue by conducting water and air search. The recovery effort will continue Thursday morning with the assistance of a dive team.
The matter is under investigation by the Cochrane RCMP.
