Calgary police are trying to find a man believed to be responsible for stealing wallets while drivers attempt to fix flat tires.

Police say four times in the past week a man has pointed out a flat tire to a female driver, whose vehicles are sitting in parking lots.

The man tells the driver to put pressure on the punctured tire while he goes to get something out of his vehicle.

Police say he then leaves the scene and the victim soon finds out their wallet has disappeared.

The man is described as 30 to 40 years old, five foot six inches tall with a medium skin tone, black hair and brown eyes.

In three out of the four reported cases, he was described wearing an orange reflective safety vest. He also has been identified as having an accent.

The incidents have occurred in various areas around Calgary:

  • Monday around 1 p.m. in the 5100 block of 126 Avenue southeast.
  • Monday around 4 p.m. in the 16300 block of Somercrest Street southwest.
  • Tuesday around 12:50 p.m. in the 9800 block of Macleod Trail south.
  • Tuesday just after 4:30 p.m. in the 3500 block of 32 Avenue northeast.
