Calgary police and the Alberta Motor Association say aggressive drivers are putting roadside workers at risk.

They staged a mock emergency on Stoney Trail Thursday to pull over and educate aggressive drivers about the need to slow down.

"Whether it's an ambulance, fire truck, police cruiser or a tow truck, the law says slow down to 60 km/h or less and pull over into the far lane if it's safe to do so," said Const. Jim Lebedeff.

Two weeks ago a service truck belonging to the AMA was hit by a vehicle passing the scene at high speed.

"Our operator was lucky and so was the motorist we were rescuing," said Randy Loyk, AMA manager of technical services.

"We want people to remember, that could be one of your family members getting their tire fixed or your dad that's putting himself at risk to help someone in danger."
