A home and two other buildings off of Highway 1 were gutted by fire Sunday afternoon.

When emergency crews arrived on scene there were three structures, including at least one home, on fire when they arrived, said Rockyview Fire Chief Ken McMullen.

The home and buildings are located on a ridge near near Highway 22, also known as Cowboy Trail, that is visible from Highway 1.

A man living in the home was taken to hospital with burns on his hands and arms, said McMullen.

The man told emergency workers that he was inside the house making toast when smoke alarms went off.

He said there was then a small explosion.

Fire crews are investigating.
