Raw sewage continues to spew from a blocked pipe on the Tsuu T'ina First Nation, despite a band official telling CBC News early Thursday afternoon that the band stopped the potentially dangerous spill.

Initially Tsuu T'ina said crews fixed the pipe but an official later confirmed to CBC News that raw sewage continues to spill onto the forest floor near the Elbow River.

Sewage from the bedroom community of Redwood Meadows has leaked onto the ground roughly 500 metres away from the Elbow River for nearly two weeks now.

Band officials hope to fix the pipe by Friday.

Tsuu T'ina believe concrete and gravel caused the blockage, calling and "suspicous" and saying it plans to contact law enforcement.

Opposition politicians in Alberta want the province and federal government to step in and clean up the mess.

The province says it's up to the federal government to fix, but federal officials downplay the threat to Calgary's drinking water.

Environmentalists say more needs to be done to protect the public from dangerous pathogens leaking into Calgary's drinking water.

"It would be nice if there was sort of a central ghostbusters number that dealt with it," said Mark Bennett with the Bow River Council.

"But there isn't, so often you end up getting in a loop of well, 'I'm sorry I can't help you but call these guys,' and they say, 'You call these guys,' and it's very frustrating because the challenge is sitting there in front of you and it's needing a resolution."
