A group of recovering soldiers has been training in Canmore, Alta., for a hike up to Mount Everest's basecamp.

The expedition team comprises of retired and reserve Canadian Forces members, many of whom are healing from physical or mental wounds sustained in the course of their service.

The goal is to help other ill or injured soldiers by raising awareness and funds for the True Patriot Love Foundation, which supports military families on mental health initiatives, health research and by putting on camps for military children.

CBC reporter Tara Fedun headed out to Canmore to see how things are coming along.
