The Calgary Stampede can be fun, but it comes with some potential serious health risks.
Some safe sex organizations are warning Stampede enthusiasts about the lingering effects of the 10-day party.
As a result, volunteers are spreading 10,000 condom packets around the city.
Diana Wark with the Calgary Sexual Health Centre said if this year is typical, her office will see an increase in clients soon.
“A few weeks from now they realize that they had unprotected sex or they did something that they wouldn't normally and they need to talk to somebody,” Wark said.
Susan Cress of AIDS Calgary said it's a busy time of year.
“We know often people go out with innocent intent and they wake up in some place they weren't prepared to wake up,” Cress said.
Her message - the one printed on posters pinned to boards across the city this Stampede -Put a condom on your cowboy.
