Charges upgraded in brutal Beltline beating

John Herrera was attacked Wednesday night and remains in critical condition in hospital. (Calgary Sun)The charges against three people accused of badly beating a man in Calgary’s Beltline neighbourhood last month have been upgraded to attempted murder.
Chantelle Tiffany Campbell, Garrett Elliott Lee Smith, and Jarod Donald Henry were initially charged with aggravated assault in the beating of John Fernando Herrera.
Police believe Herrera was walking home with his groceries on May 23 when he was assaulted, unprovoked.
Herrera was in life-threatening condition after the assault, on Sixth Street at 15th Avenue S.W.
His current condition is unknown.
The Calgary homicide unit continues to investigate and is asking any witnesses to come forward.
