Alberta Ballet’s pilot project for boys in ballet soared past expectations.

The organization launched the program earlier this year in the hopes of attracting more boys to ballet dancing.

They expected about 10 boys would show up for the free classes — instead they had 40.

Tristan Slimm says his mom Joanna wanted him to try the class.

“I thought it could help me doing my soccer, other things,” said Tristan.

Instructor Aram Minukyan says there’s a stigma attached to boys doing ballet and wearing tights.

“Yet no body realizes football players wear tights,” said Minukyan.

This year's success means the program will continue next year.
