A trust has been set up for 21-month-old Mackenzy Woolfsmith at any RBC branch in Canada. (Courtesy of the Woolfsmith family)Answers to how a 21-month-old girl died at a Calgary day home may take months, police said Monday after an intial autopsy failed to determine a cause of death.
Mackenzy Woolfsmith was taken off life support on Friday night after being found unconscious and not breathing at a day home in McKenzie Towne Wednesday.
Investigators now say it may take months for some test results to return, a timeframe considered typical for deaths involving young children.
Police were originally told the young girl had fallen down some stairs. The homicide unit is now investigating.
Gift of life
Over the weekend, Mackenzy’s parents asked for privacy while police investigate.
Family members said they are so proud of their little girl, who became an organ donor after she died.
"With her generous donation, four babies now have chances at amazing lives," they said in the news release.
"She brought so much happiness to so many people during her short time with us, she loved to share and this was her biggest gift. Please consider being an organ donor, it really does save lives."
The family is now asking for privacy so they can grieve during this difficult time.
A trust fund has been set up in memory of the girl at any RBC branch in Canada under her name, Mackenzy Woolfsmith.
