Family of toddler who died from day home injuries speaks

The parents of 21-month-old Mackenzy Woolfsmith, who died after sustaining serious injuries in a private Calgary day home, are asking for privacy while police investigate.

(Courtesy of the Woolfsmith family)The young girl was taken off life support on Friday night after being found unconscious and not breathing on Wednesday afternoon. She had been taken to hospital in critical condition.
Police were originally told the young girl had fallen down some stairs. The homicide unit is now investigating and an autopsy is set for early next week.
"We recognize that everyone wants answers, and so do we, but please allow the investigative process to be completed before jumping to conclusions about the circumstances around the accident," the Woolfsmith family stated in a release.
Family members said they are so proud of their little girl, who became an organ donor after she died.
"With her generous donation, four babies now have chances at amazing lives," they said in the release.
"She brought so much happiness to so many people during her short time with us, she loved to share and this was her biggest gift. Please consider being an organ donor, it really does save lives."
The family is now asking for privacy so they can grieve during this difficult time.
A trust fund has been set up in memory of the little girl at any RBC branch in Canada under her name, Mackenzy Woolfsmith.
