It took roughly a half an hour to free a 13-year-old Calgary boy from a top-load washing machine after a game of hide-and-go-seek went terribly wrong.

Just before 1:30 p.m., Calgary firefighters responded to the 5000 Block of Rundleview Road N.E. for the rescue of a boy trapped in a very clever hiding spot.

The gamester was almost completely in the machine when he became stuck. His grandmother attempted to free him but was unsuccessful.

Battalion chief Ernie Molineaux says the boy was wrapped around the machine's agitator in the fetal position.

"It took us about a half hour to disassemble the machine enough to get him out of the barrel," he said. "It took some time to do. The big concern, from what I understand from the crew that was on the scene, is that he didn't want his mother to know about it."

The child was not injured during the ordeal, and the washer was also saved during the event.

There is no word on how his mother is feeling.
