Calgary's first poet laureate was announced at a ceremony Monday at city hall.
Musician and writer Kris Demeanor was picked for the post from among six poets shortlisted by the Calgary Arts Development Authority.
Demeanor said a lot is already being done to nurture literature and poetry in the city and that he hopes to add to that.
"I definitely want to promote that by being a part of as many scenes as possible,” he said.
