CBC News has uncovered court documents on the man linked to the murder of a young mother in Airdrie last week.

Those documents show a man with a violent past.

This after Andrea Conroy, a single mother in her 30s, was found dead on Friday in her Bayside-area home in Airdrie. She had a seven-year-old daughter, who was not home at the time of the murder.

The body of the only suspect in the case was found the next day in a Nanton motel room. Investigators are calling it a murder suicide.

They say the two of them were in a relationship.

Acquaintances say the man is Richard Doucette, an award-winning bodybuilder who worked with Conroy at an Airdrie gym called Sculptures.

Doucette convicted of assault

CBC news has learned that Doucette had previous run-ins with the law — and was even sentenced to jail time in the past

Among those run-ins, Doucette was convicted of two counts of assaulting a Airdrie woman who acquaintances say was his common-law wife in 2004. He received a six-month jail sentence as well as a year's probation and a 10-year firearms ban.

In January 2005, Doucette was convicted of extortion in connection with a robbery in Airdrie. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, a year's probation and was given a lifetime firearms ban.

According to Alberta Justice, Doucette has also been convicted of failure to appear in court, and has been in front of a judge for breaching conditions in the past.
