An Alberta woman severely beaten in Mexico last month has been released from a Calgary hospital.

But relatives say 37-year-old Sheila Nabb faces a long recovery, and will likely need more surgery for her facial injuries.

Nabb was found on Jan. 20 in a pool of blood in the elevator of a five-star resort in Mazatlan, Mexico.

Several bones in her face were broken, and her jaw had to be wired shut while she was being cared for in Mexico.

Nabb was briefly in a medically induced coma, and had pneumonia.

She was subsequently taken to Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary for reconstructive surgery on her face.

A charge of attempted murder has been laid in Mexico against 28-year-old Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero.
