A home in Calgary's southwest was evacuated — and a neighbourhood put on guard — because of a bomb scare on Saturday evening.
A man called 911 at around 4:30 p.m., saying he saw three men with a backpack with wires sticking out.
Police taped off a perimeter around 15th Avenue and 6th Street S.W. home during a five-hour standoff.
The standoff lasted about five hours. (CBC)A man would not allow police to enter the residence to search it and give it the all-clear. The situation was resolved sometime after 9 p.m.
There was nothing of note found in the backpack.
"We always take these things seriously, but it turned out to be no cause," said Calgary police Duty Insp. Steve Ellefson.
The house was known to police.
