Truck, rifle found in connection to Killam RCMP shootings

RCMP have found the truck they were seeking in the shooting of two officers last week on a rural property near Killam, Alta. They also seized a .50 calibre sniper rifle which was hidden inside the truck. (RCMP)
RCMP have found the black 2000 Chevrolet Silverado truck they were seeking in the shootings of two Mounties near Killam, Alta., last week.
The vehicle was found on a rural farm yard about 10 kilometres southeast of Killam. A .50 calibre sniper rifle was located inside the truck. A loaded .50 calibre magazine was discovered nearby by a RCMP dog team.
RCMP say the truck was hidden among a number of vehicles and equipment on the property.
"A .50-calibre sniper rifle is a very high-powered weapon and has a maximum range usually of about 6.8 kilometres and an effective range of 1.8 kilometres and we're very thankful to get that weapon off the streets," said RCMP Sgt. Tim Taniguchi.
Constables Sheldon Shah and Sidney Gaudette were shot and wounded on Feb. 7 while they attempted to execute a search warrant for a .45 calibre weapon at a property near Killam, Alta.
Brad Clarke was found dead in the house the next day. On Friday, police arrested his nephew, Sawyer Robison, 27, who now faces two counts of attempted murder.
After the arrest, police turned their attention to locating the Silverado, which they believed Robison used to leave his uncle's property after the shootings.
Shah and Gaudette are recovering in hospital.
