A home on the south eastern edge of Calgary was destroyed by fire on Sunday night.

Fire crews were called to the two-storey house at 17th Avenue and 92nd Street S.E. at about 6:30 p.m.

Firefighters began attacking the blaze but quickly withdrew when they realized the floor had been compromised.

"The floor was on fire and you have to get crews out of there, because it's structurally unsound then and the floor can cave in, so we were unable to do a primary search,” said acting Battalion Chief Bob Akins.

It’s believed no one was in the building and there were no injuries, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
