The town of Vulcan is coming to terms with the news Tuesday that the body of a missing senior has been recovered — the alleged victim of a kidnapping and murder.
Residents say there is a mixture of relief and sadness at the news of the death of 77-year-old Otto (Bunty) Loose, a well-known retired farmer in the community.
Leah McIntyre, like a lot of people in Vulcan, considered Bunty Loose a friend. She said the pain of the death is partly mitigated by the news that the RCMP have made two arrests in the case.
“The mood of the town is a little bit of relief. To know what has happened to Bunty. Now you have a little bit of closure.”
Mayor Howard Dicks said the incident has hit the town hard.
“It is a shock and a lot of people will be feeling this for some time to come.”
Timmy Douglas Engel, 35, is facing charges of first degree murder and indignity to a human body.
He'll be in a Lethbridge court on Jan. 20th.
Engel’s alleged partner, 28-year-old Bobbi Joe Parks, was charged with obstruction of justice but was released Tuesday afternoon and will be appearing in Claresholm court on Wednesday.
According to Alberta Justice, Engel is also supposed to be in a Fort McLeod court next month to face a string of charges, including uttering threats, kidnapping and assault.
