A 27-year-old man from Calgary is dead after a sliding incident at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort near Golden, B.C.

It happened at 1 a.m. when a group of roughly four adults hiked up the closed lower portion of the mountain with sliding equipment.

The group was sliding down a closed ski run when the man, who was riding an inner tube, crashed into a wooden pole at the bottom of the hill.

RCMP and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene after a call from 911, and the man later died in hospital.

The victim’s name is not being released upon the request of the family and RCMP are continuing the investigation into the accident.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort does not permit night skiing or sliding on the ski trails.
