Dozens of Calgarians gathered to sort and wrap thousands of gifts for seniors over the weekend.

The program — called Seniors Secret Service — lines up volunteers with seniors who wouldn't otherwise receive a gift.

In a warehouse in Calgary's southeast Saturday, volunteers were barely visible over the boxes, gift bags and colourful wrapping paper that filled the room.

“We do call it Santa's workshop,” laughed volunteer Lisa O'Blenis.

She said it's a special year for the program because 25 years ago it started with 10 gifts and this year 2,500 seniors will get a package delivered on Christmas Eve — everything from robes to slippers to mitts.

Diana says she couldn't imagine a better organization to support over the holidays.

“I think they kinda get forgotten,” she said about the seniors who receive gifts.

For Sue it's the thank-you cards sent by the seniors that keeps her coming back.

“Thank you for restoring my faith in Santa Claus,” Sue read from one card.

“See, it's going to make me cry,” she added.
